Jason MacKay’s veteran runner Snozz finally claimed his maiden Group race win on Saturday night when the September 2006 whelp snared victory in the $35,000-to-the-winner Group 2 Multicam Routing Systems Black Top (515m) at The Gardens.

In a race marred by the fall of three dogs, Snozz ($2.80) held on and avoided trouble to finish one and three quarter lengths ahead of a strong finishing Flash Of Light ($7.40) with Daydream ($8) in third.

The only other two runners to finish the 2010 Black Top were Nicholas’s Habit ($44) and Tuiaki ($7.30) as New Divide and Elite Blue Size fell while Bit Stressed also failed to finish after being injured.

After jumping from box eight, Snozz crossed the field to the rails as they approached the first turn and in doing so checked New Divide, causing the Kenneth Cheetham-trained son of Big Daddy Cool to race and wide and in turn severely check Reg Kay’s Elite Blue Size and Brett May’s Bit Stressed.

The clash also caused Tuiaki some trouble, but they managed to finish whereas New Divide, Elite Blue Size and Bit Stressed all fell at the first turn.

In our Black Top preview we had tipped Snozz to win and Daydream to place and were right on both counts

While New Divide and Elite Blue Size avoided injury in the incident, the news wasn’t as good for Bit Stressed who fractured their near side wrist and have been ruled out of racing for the next month.

Avoiding the collision, Snozz (Bombastic Shiraz x Special Osti) booted away along the rails and had too much speed for his remaining rivals as the old dog continued to lead all the way to victory, his 25th win from 69 career starts.

The Black Top results would have paid well for any punter’s that followed our Race Preview & Tips as we had picked Snozz to win and Daydream down as the best dog to Place at SportsBet.

This Saturday night the next big greyhound final will take place when The Gardens host the $35,000-to-the-winner Group 2 Multicam Routing Systems Black Top (515m).

Heats for the Black Top were held last week with the top two dogs from each qualifier progressing onto this week’s final showdown.

Drawn well in box eight Snozz will be hard to beat so check out their odds at SportsBet

The fastest qualifier from last week was Jason MacKay’s speedy son of Bombastic Shiraz, Snozz, the veteran dog in red hot form of late winning three of their past four starts.

Snozz ran a scintillating 29.51 in the heats beating home race favourite Daydream by over three lengths after jumping from box eight and will be wearing the pink rug again on Saturday night.

Appearing in his 11th Group race final, Snozz is yet to win at this level having placed five times and finished fourth on three and is sure to be the sentimental favourite.

Another heat winner from last week who also boasts the fastest personal best here is the Reg Kay-trained Elite Blue Size.

Daydream in box two looks ideal for a Place bet at SportsBet having finished second to Snozz in the heats

The brilliant blue dog recently failed to place at Dapto but was back to their best in the Black Top qualifiers. Elite Blue Size, however, has some work to do in the final after drawing awkwardly with box six.

The other two dogs finishing first in their qualifiers were Bit Stressed who beat home Tuiaki in a race where hot favourite Mr. Metz was knocked out, and New Divide who held on to defeat the race favourite Flash Of Light.

Trained by Brett May, Bit Stressed will jump from box seven on Saturday night and despite having won their past three starts at The Gardens looks a bit outclassed here, while New Divide has drawn box four and has won four from their past four here.

Brett May also has his smart bitch and National Futurity champion Daydream lining up in the Black Top final from box two who looks ideal for a Place bet at SportsBet.

Runner-up to New Divide in the heats, Flash Of Light, stands a strong chance in the Black Top final after drawing ideally on the rails and is best for an Each Way bet at SportsBet.

The 2010 Muticam Systems Black Top Final is programmed as race six on The Garden’s mega 11-event card for Saturday night and is due to jump at 7:08pm.

This Thursday night the next Group race on the Australian greyhound calendar will take place at Dapto with the final of the $25,000-to-the-winner Group 2 Macro Meats Megastar (520m).

Last week a prelude was held in anticipation of the showdown, featuring the eight best dogs nominated.

The top three finishers in the prelude have moved on to the final, with the other five spots filled by invitation with five Group winning dogs selected by a panel of experts.

The prelude was won by Seek And Destroy ($5.50) who finished two lengths ahead of Certain Magic ($3.80) with Snozz ($7.30) a mere nose away in a gallant third.

Despite their classy win, the Anthony Azzopardi-trained Seek And Destroy has been scratched from the final, making way for Lovin’ Spoonful to start from box eight.

Seek And Destroy was examined by a veterinary surgeon following their impressive victory last week and was found to have split the webbing on the nearside of their hind foot.

Prelude runner-up Certain Magic has drawn awkwardly in box four, the black daughter of Bombastic Shiraz coming off some consistent form that included a win over this distance at Wentworth Park at the start of the month.

Despite her class, the awkward box draw means she will have some trouble keeping pace.

Snozz, who ran third in the prelude, has fared better in the box draw and will wear the black rug on Thursday night.

The Jason Mackay-trained speedster has won two and placed in three of their seven starts from box eight and will have benefited from their first look at the Dapto track last week.

Snozz looks good for a Place bet through SportsBet after their first-up run here last week

But the biggest dangers in the Megastar final looked to be the five invitees, including the Mark Delbridge-trained Flash Of Light.

Drawn ideally in box one, Flash Of Light will be having their first start at Dapto on Thursday and has won four of her 10 starts on the rails, but tends to prefer wider draws.

The veteran runner is coming off two wins over 595m at Sandown Park and looks best for an Each Way bet with the quality of the field she competes against.

Flash Of Light looks best for an Each Way bet through SportsBet as she prefers wider draws

There is also Reg Kay’s champion runner Elite Blue Size in box two, multiple Group winner Fedex who is never far behind, Ron Ball’s Mr. Metz and the promising Tuiaki.

Elite Blue Size trialled exceptionally well here back in July running a smart 29.84 and is likely to start as the odds on favourite.

Elite Blue Size will start as the odds-on favourite at SportsBet after trialling well here last month

A brilliant starter with plenty of early pace, in this box draw will be hard to beat.

Mr. Metz (box five) boasts the fastest personal best here, having run 29.66 when winning the Dapto Maiden last year.

Ball is confident of the dog’s chances on Thursday night despite their less than ideal draw.

The Queensland runner is likely to fly under the radar and is the best value bet.

Mr. Metz represents the best value bet to win at juicy odds through SportsBet

The 2010 Macro Meats Megastar Final will run as race six on Thursday night’s bumper 10-event card, due to jump at 9:14pm.

The other big events scheduled for this week are the $50,000 Group 1 Maturity Classic Final (525m) and the Group 2 AWM Distance Championship (725m) held at The Meadows on Saturday night.

Love betting on the dogs? Don’t go to the TAB and settle for second-best odds. SportsBet has better odds and payouts on all the greyhound races every day, so sign up today and enjoy a free $200 bet bundle!

On Thursday night Mark Delbridge’s speedy Victorian bitch Flash Of Light claimed another stunning victory when she outclassed a field of stars to win the $25,000-to-the-winner final of the Group 2 McKenna Memorial (595m) at Sandown Park.

Starting as the warm $2.60 favourite, the daughter of Premier Fantasy burst out of box two and held on to secure a stunning all-the-way victory finishing one and three-quarter lengths in front of rising young dog Pulp ($5.70), while the Grahame Bate-trained Zambola Bale was a further two and a quarter lengths back in third.

Flash Of Light and Zambola Bale both jumped beautifully and were head-to-head initially, Flash Of Light on the inside and Zambola Bale spearing across the field from box seven.

It was a gallant run from the Craig Chappelow-trained Pulp who had drawn awkwardly with box four but came from second last on the first turn to finish runner-up after a strong late burst down the straight, but they couldn’t catch Flash Of Light who once again was too good on the night winning in a sharp 34.24.

Flash Of Light now boasts an impressive record of 31 wins from 64 career starts for $222,000 in prizemoney, including a hat-trick of Group races after her earlier success in the Group 2 Rookie Rebel at The Meadows and the Group 3 Dawson at Sandown Park.

Her next big target will be the Group 2 Macro Meats Megastar (520m) at Dapto at the end of the month.

This weekend the group greyhound racing continues as The Meadows host the 12 heats for the $50,000 Group 1 Maturity Classic (525m) featuring talent including Cosmic Chief, Enry Walt, Cara Bale, Banger Harvey, Arsonist and McKenna Memorial fourth placegetter Philby.

But don’t bet on any of these dogs…….not at the TAB!

This Thursday night Sandown Park will come alive as the club hosts the $25,000-to-the-winner final of the Group 2 McKenna Memorial, run over 595m for the first time since it was converted from 715m.

Eight top runners that made it through last week’s qualifiers will take to the track for the final, including the pronounced favourite Flash of Light.

The Mark Delbridge-trained Premier Fantasy bitch is a veteran Victorian runner with over 60 race starts to her name, including her impressive all-the-way win in the heats last week.

Flash of Light, who boasts the fastest personal best here, has drawn ideally in box two for Thursday night and will be hard to catch if she jumps well and finds the early lead.

There were a number of upsets in the heats last week with some of the series’ favourites knocked out including Dashing Corsair who beaten by over seven lengths in the opening heat won by fast beginner Zambola Bale.

The Grahame Bate-trained Zambola Bale has drawn box seven for the final, the daughter of Collision having won four and placed in six of her 10 starts wearing the black rug and so looks great for an Each Way bet at SportsBet.

The other McKenna Memorial heat winners from last Thursday were Craig Chappelow’s recent Group 2 Big Dog Cup winner Pulp drawn awkwardly in box four for the final, the Anthony Azzopardi-trained Smooth Fancy jumping out wide from box eight and the speedy local Where’s Womby.

The 2010 McKenna Memorial final is programmed as race eight on Sandown Park’s bumper 10-event card for Thursday night and is due to jump at 9:35pm.

Think the TAB has the best dog odds? Wrong! SportsBet is the place to go for the hottest odds and payouts for the greyhound races and it takes just five minutes to sign up.

Last Thursday night impressive black bitch Nellie Noodles swooped home to claim victory in the $50,000-to-the-winner Group 1 Cartwright Property Group Gold Cup (710m) at Brisbane’s Albion Park.

The in-form stayer went out as the $1.90 favourite and managed to hold off brilliant Queenslander Dashing Corsair ($2.30) by a length with roughie Blue Lorian ($31) a gallant third just a further half-length away.

Trained by Robert Britton, Nellie Noodles was sitting at the very back of the pack with a lap to go in the Cup final, before powering home to an inspiring last-to-first victory to maintain her perfect record in Brisbane.

Both Nellie Noodles and runner-up Dashing Corsair suffered a setback at the first turn. After recovering, the Dwyer Lennon-trained Dashing Corsair eventually took the lead holding off a strong challenge by Peter Whye’s Blue Lorian.

But it was Nellie Noodles who timed her run to perfection, pulling out a brilliant late burst to run down the leaders and secure victory in a respectable 41.84. Having shown such a shining to the Brisbane track, Britton may return to Albion Park with his emerging star for the Group 3 Big Dog Cup series, heats for which will be held Thursday week.

It was the second Albion Park Cup victory for breeder-owner Helen Ivers, the former Queenslander having previously seen success with Trojan Tears in 1994.

Nellie Noodles (Flying Penske x Classy Creek) has now won her last four races in succession, all at the Albion Park track, to bring her overall career record to nine wins and two placings from just 15 starts for a growing $71,070 in prizemoney.

In other group greyhound racing news from last Thursday night, Flash Of Light secured a classy win the $40,000-to-the-winner Group 3 The Dawson (515m) at Sandown Park. The Mark Delbridge-trained Flash Of Light ($3.50F) defeated Darren McDonald’s Nova Surf ($8.10) by a comfortable three lengths with Fedex ($4.60) finishing off the trifecta a further two and a quarter lengths away.
