Oaks Road remained undefeated for 2012 when winning the Group 2 2012 Bob Payne Final (520m) at a wet Wentworth Park in 30.28 sec on Saturday night.

Jumping well from box five the Mark Gatt trained galloper gave nothing else a hope adding the feature to last year’s Group 2 Megastar win at Dapto and Group 1 Paws Of Thunder runner-up prize at Wentworth Park.

The son of Spiral Nikita defeated Fancy Dean by four lengths with Young Snozz third another 3 ¾ lengths away.

Oaks Road has now taken his earnings to $143,000 mark.

The night’s other Group 2 feature went to outsider Crafty Lady.

She won 2012 Globe Memorial Final (720m) in 43.19 secs.

An eye-catching fourth in her heat to Echelon, the daughter of Bit Chili and Valerie’s Purse overcame some interference heading into the home bend to still take victory by 1 ½ lengths over He’s My Future.

Victorian star Echelon was unlucky.

It copped a heavy check when looking the winner heading off the top bend.

Favourite Zipping Lad failed on the heavy track after leading.

He labored heading into the back straight the final time but it meant little to his owners Martin and Fiona Hallinan who also own Crafty Lady.

The Wayne Vassallo trained bitch has now won nine of her 14 starts and looks to have a bright staying future.

Group racing turns to The Gardens this Friday afternoon with heats of the Group 1 National Derby and Futurity on show.

Greyhound Racing Victoria has reintroduced its $50,000 triple country cups bonus for 2012.

Initiated for the first time in 2011 when captured by Gippsland superstar El Grand Senor, the $50,000 bonus is available to the first greyhound to win three Victorian country cups in a calendar year.

Geelong greyhound Mystic Apple won Victoria’s first country cup in 2012 last Sunday when capturing the Cranbourne Cup, a group 2 event worth $40,000 to-the-winner.

Another 10 country cups will be run in Victoria in 2012, one at each of the state’s remaining provincial tracks.

GRV Chairman Peter Caillard said GRV had little hesitation in reintroducing the bonus.

“GRV’s $50,000 country cups bonus was initiated in 2011 to help boost the profile of country racing, and to entice a greater number of quality greyhounds to race on the provincial circuit.”

“Last year champion sprinter El Grand Senor attracted a lot of interest in our sport from many non-racing people, and winning three country cups and snaring the inaugural triple cups bonus was a big part of that,” Caillard said.

Last year El Grand Senor became the first greyhound to win three Victorian country cups in a calendar year since Whisky Assassin in 2004.

The team at Luxbet are offering to double all initial deposits from $25 to $400.

Racing Queensland Limited (RQL) today confirmed it would immediately begin talks with greyhound stakeholders in an effort to progress new greyhound racing infrastructure.

RQL chairman Bob Bentley said private harness racing interests have to date held back the greyhound industry from building a new home away from Albion Park.

“The crippling delay to the greyhound industry is no longer tolerable,” said Mr Bentley.

“The greyhound industry owned half of Albion Park before it became an RQL asset and greyhound stakeholders have been unfairly caught up in legal proceedings initiated by another racing code.

“RQL will immediately start discussions with greyhound stakeholders to seek their views on greyhound racing and training infrastructure in South-East Queensland.

“We need urgent input from the greyhound industry in South-East Queensland so we can locate the best site and get on with building this much needed infrastructure.”

Mr Bentley said he would prepare a report in the coming weeks for consideration by the State Government, which will include the feasibility of any preferred alternate site as well as the views of greyhound racing stakeholders.

“Queensland Racing Minister Tim Mulherin is very supportive of breaking this stalemate and making sure the greyhound industry in South-East Queensland gets a new facility,” he said.

“The final decision for greyhounds is likely to have an impact on the proposed development at Deagon and as a consequence the distribution of funds under the Government’s $110 million Industry Infrastructure Plan.

“It remains the direction of RQL to develop Deagon into a first class harness racing facility, subject to Supreme Court action.”

Mr Bentley said it is in the best interests of the industry to realise the potential long term earning capacity of developing Albion Park to reinvest the reoccurring income into other facility upgrades and prizemoney for all codes

Whether it be dogs, trots or races Luxbet gets the ball rolling by doubling any initial deposit from $25 to $400.

Top stayer Zipping Lad has maintained favouritism for Saturday’s Group 2 2012 Globe Memorial Plate Final 720m at Wentworth Park despite recording a slower heat time last week.

The Jason MacKay trained dog notched up his seventh win at the track from nine starts in the time of 42.62 sec.

Zipping Lad jumped uncharacteristically slowly but headed to the rail and avoided early race trouble.

He became stronger with each stride and easily defeated He’ My Future by five lengths.

The honour of the quickest heat time went to Victorian Echelon (from box four) in 42.55 sec.

The son of Mogambo jumped midfield and worked his way to the front in the final stages to defeat distance first starter He Knows Uno (from box 1).

Both dogs have drawn wide in the final while Zipping Lad will jump from the same box three.

Echelon has box eight which suits his style as he can avoid any early trouble.

He Knows Uno was slow early last week but railed up to be in front after a lap.

He is another who always runs a good race Wentworth Park and the three dogs seem to have the strongest chance in the final.

Outside the three roughies Thrilling Frank and Crafty Lady both ran respectable heats.

Crafty Lady made a stack of ground late after being a long way back.

She unfortunately has drawn badly in box six, the same box as when fourth to Echelon in the heat beaten six lengths.

If there is to be a bolter winning this race Crafty Lady would be it.

Tips: Echelon 1, Zipping Lad 2, He Knows Uno 3 Crafty Lady 4.

TAB Sportsbet’s market on the final of the .$40,000 first prize 2012 Bob Payne Summer Sprint (520m) at Wentworth Park on Saturday night is a fair reflection on the openness of the Group 2.

Comeback kid Kilty Lad has been made 2012 Bob Payne Summer Sprint $3.80 favourite with four others runners Radley Bale, Young Snozz, Oaks Road, and Fancy Dean $6 or less.

Kilty Lad has the imposing record of 24 wins from 48 starts.

The dual Group 1 winning son of Superman returned to racing in last week’s heats with all guns blazing.

He ran 29.70 sec in the heat, one of three 2012 Bob Payne Summer Sprint heats all run in similar times.

Twelve months ago Kilty Lad won both the Silver Chief Classic and Adelaide Cup.

He remained in top races but was injured in the invitation Group 1 Topgun at The Meadows on October 22.

Last week the injured hock ligaments gave Kilty Lad no troubles and if past performance is a guide box seven will suit.

Kilty Bale has won four of six starts from the box and handily has Radley Bale drawn on its outside in the 2012 Bob Payne Summer Sprint.

Last week Radley Bale won his heat in 29.84 but his initial reaction at box rise was to jump outwards.

A repeat would give Kilty Lad room to move early.

Radley Bale is good from any box and loves Wentworth Park.

The Golden Easter Egg winner has now won four of five starts at the track and is sure to give his backers a great run.

Perhaps the most impressive run in the three heats was that of the defeated Young Snozz who finished second to Radley Bale.

It picked off many lengths in the second half of the race to go down narrowly.

Just a bit of luck early and Young Snozz could easily finish over the top of its rivals and win. Certainly he looks like a sensible eachway bet.

Oaks Road ran the fastest heat time in 29.64 sec from box three but has been given a tougher task in box five.

He is likely to be beaten for early dash and needs that ounce of luck to avoid trouble.

The heat time speaks for itself and if Oaks Road is close enough in the second half of the race it will take stopping.

Both Melbourne Cup runner-up Shereen Bale and General Trigga are the Tab Sportsbet outsiders at just $10 signifying the quality and even chances in this final.

Fancy Dean was slower out than usual early in the heat and can bounce back in the final with a better getaway..

Tips: Young Snozz 1, Kilty Lad 2, Radley Bale 3 Fancy Dean.

Golden Easter Egg winner Radley Bale successfully returned to the scene of the triumph when winning the first heat of the $40,000 first prize 2012 Bob Payne Summer Sprint (520m) at Wentorth Park last night.

Radley Bale continued his love-affair with the track saluting in a quick 29.84 sec.

He recorded his fourth win in just five Wentworth Park starts in the heat that saw the demise of probably 2012 Bob Payne Summer Sprint series favourite Noble Pedro.

Radley Bale stepped outwards at the start bumping Main Drag and then raced to the front.

Kennelmate David Bale did his bit from box eight as he crossed sharply interfering with Noble Pedro.

Noble Pedro was still a chance but then knocked out of contention when Rybenbrook (box 4) smashed into him at the first turn.

Both dogs along with Gable Drum (box 6) caught on the duo’s outside, were no hope from that point.

Radley Bale was clear down the back straight with David Bale and Main Drag holding the placings ahead of Young Snozz (box 1).

Young Snozz circled the duo and came out after Radley Bale.

He railed up and missed by a neck with David Bale a long way back a clear third.

The 2012 Bob Payne Summer Sprint second heat impressively went to Oaks Road in 29.64 sec.

The first surprise was the slow getaway of favourite Fancy Dean (box 1) as Adam Meway (box 5) led.

Oaks Road (box 3) positioned up equal second with General Trigga going into the first turn of the 2012 Bob Payne Summer Sprint second heat.
