Azzopardi Thrilled with Shoulders Ahead of Hudson Pacific Maturity Final

Allocated the favourable Box two for the featured event, trainer Anthony Azzopardi is quietly confident of success for sole entrant Shoulders in the 2014 Hudson Pacific Maturity Final (525m) at The Meadows on Saturday.

Carrying good form into the $100,000 to-the-winner race, Azzopardi said he is trying not to get too ahead of himself when considering his chance on Saturday evening, but is hoping to deliver a memorable victory to Shoulders’ owners.

“I’m 100 per cent he has the class to compete in this race,” Azzopardi told The Dogs.

“We were very happy with box two. The inside is where we wanted to be. He is a good, hard railer, so this should suit him.

“I’m not getting overly excited but you have got to be optimistic in a race like this.

“The owners did a terrific job just getting the dog back to a position where he could race.

“It was touch and go for his career so this could be a fairytale for him.

“The owners deserve a win in a race like this for the work they’ve done. I’d love to win it for them.”

Securing an impressive total of five wins and four minor places from just 12 career starts so far, Azzopardi said the form displayed by Shoulders in last week’s semi-final is sure to count for a lot on Saturday night.

“It was a big effort in the semi-finals, he was unlucky not to win, Azzopardi said.

“When you look at the past winners, it’s very exciting to be involved and have a chance to win it.

“It would be something we could look back on and say, ‘we’ve done it’.”
