Black Magic Opal Wins 2013 Melbourne Cup Final – Race Results

Black Magic Opal has won the Melbourne Cup Final at Sandown Park last night November 21, 2013.

The two-year-old is trained by Jason Thompson, who was full of relief after watching Black Magic Opal win the 2013 Melbourne Cup.

Black Magic Opal will now go on to contest the Group 2 Ballarat Cup on November 27 and December 4, before running in the Group 1 Hobart Cup on December 12 and 19.

Thompson feels that Black Opal Magic is more than capable of bouncing back to peak form in time for his next run.

“The good thing about this dog is that he always pulls up well after a run and he is no different this morning,” Thompson said.

“The presentation and photos that go with winning a Melbourne Cup are a lot for a dog to have to deal with but he just takes it all in his stride.

“He has such a terrific temperament it is quite unbelievable.

“We enjoy racing him so there are no plans to retire him to stud for a while yet.

“He’s only two-and-a-half years old and it would be crazy to retire him.

“As well as he is going, I believe a dog’s best racing is between two-and-a-half and three years old. That six-month period is when they are at their peak.”
