Greyhound Racing Victoria Board Dissolved Due To Betting Scandal

The board of Greyhound Racing Victoria is being dissolved after it was discovered that senior management were betting on races.

It is alleged that senior members of the board have gambled hundreds of thousands of dollars on greyhound racing before they were discovered.

While the activities did not alter the results of any races, the fact that wagering was completed during business hours was against the rules of the board.

Ombudsmen George Brouwer was appalled by the discovery.

“Members of GRV’s senior management team, including the CEO, not only ignored this behaviour but were active participants over many years,” Mr Brouwer said.

In other greyhound racing news, Miata has been dethroned in the Gold Cup final by New South Wales runner He Knows Uno.

Miata never recovered from a slow start from box four and was unable to make up the necessary distance to win the race.

Both dogs are now expected to contest the McKenna Memoral heats at Sandown on July 5, 2012.
