Brady’s Wish Has Final Swansong In 2012 Wagga Cup

Brady’s Wish will look to go out on a high when he runs in what may be his final race start at Wagga Showground this Sunday June 3, 2012.

The five-year-old is out to make the final of his third Wagga Cup, with trainer John Hartley revealing that it will be his last race.

“He’s five years old and this will be it,” Hartley said.

“He’ll be retired after the cup.

“It’d be great if he could make the final for his last start.”

The heats for the $10,000 Wagga Cup begin this Sunday and if Brady’s Wish does not make the final he will not run again.

Brady’s Wish has won 14 of his 59 race starts during his impressive career and has earned himself a long and relaxing retirement.

Hartley admitted the dog isn’t as quick as he once was, however, is more than capable of cementing himself a  place in the 2012 Wagga Cup final.

“He’s slowed up a bit, but he’s still going well,” the trainer said.

“He’ll just need some luck.”

Hartley will also run his other greyhound, Ray Ray, in the 2012 Wagga Cup heats this weekend.

“Ray Ray’s going really well,” Hartley said.

“He won at Richmond two starts ago and was fifth in a strong final there at his last start.”

Ray Ray will have to pull out his best performance after drawing the squeeze gate of four.

“He’s got box four,” Hartley said.

“I was talking to the owner Ray Jones the other day and said it would be perfect if the dog could miss the start a bit and get straight across to the fence.

“That way he could be pushing through at the first turn.

“I’d like to see that happen, but you can’t steer them once they’re on the track.”
