Rewind Faces Final Golden Easter Egg 2012 Heat

Tasmanian Greyhound Rewind is set to run in the final heat for the Golden Easter Egg tomorrow night March 24, 2012, at Wentworth Park.

The 2012 Golden Easter Egg is worth an impressive $250,000, making it the richest race for greyhounds in Australia.

The first four finishes in each heat will be given the opportunity to contest the 2012 Golden Easter Egg semi-finals next Saturday March 31, 2012.

The final Golden Easter Egg will then be held on April 7, 2012, and will feature the best eight dogs from the semis.

Rewind’s trainer Maurie Strickland is confident his greyhound will be hard to beat in tomorrow’s 2012 Golden Easter Egg heat.

“The dog trialled at Wentworth Park from line to line last Saturday morning and recorded the fastest time, so he’s in pretty good shape,” Strickland said.

Rewind has drawn box five for the race.

“Box five won’t hurt him because he will stay in a straight line to the first turn and if he gets away from the boxes safely, then he will probably beat them,” said Strickland.

“He’s met a lot of these good dogs before and he’s as good as them on any day.

“We just need a bit of luck.”

Strickland will be sending Rewind interstate to stay with Terry Penny, who will prepare the dog for his 2012 Golden Easter Egg heat.

“I have sent a few dogs to race interstate over the years but I have never travelled over the water (Bass Strait) with any of them,” he said.

“I’m not a big fan of the bigger cities but my dog is in good hands with Terry,” he said.
