2012 Globe Memorial Final box draw and heats summary

Classy Victorian stayer Echelon ran the fastest of the two heats of the Group 2 2012 Globe Memorial Plate (720m) at Wentworth Park though local Zipping Lad and staying new boy He Knows Uno lost no admirers.

Echelon, from box four, was third favourite behind He Knows Uno (box 1) and race favourite Key To Eden (box 8) who was expected to lead the 2012 Globe Memorial heat field last night.

Favourite backers would have enjoyed the start with Key To Eden crossing and leading at the first turn.

Kinga Zac stayed on the rails and got up on Key To Eden’s inside and then bumped the 26.5kg bitch at the second turn.

In doing so he ran out at that turn and He Knows Uno who jumped slowly, railed up inside Kinga Zac and took the lead in the 2012 Globe Memorial heat.

Echelon all the time in fourth position, made his run going into the back straight three lengths adrift of He Knows Uno.

Entering the home straight He Knows Uno, having his first start at 720m, started to fade and Echelon railed him and came away to win the 2012 Globe Memorial first heat by two and a half lengths.

He Knows Uno stuck on well and beat home Kinga Zac by two lengths with Crafty Lady running on late for fourth after being last.

He Knows Uno will benefit from the experience but has drawn wide in next week’s 2012 Globe Memorial final.

Crafty Lady’s effort was quite good but she has her drawn the same box six in 2012 Globe Memorial final.

Echelon stopped the clock at 42.55 sec and ran home in 17.01 sec.

The Jason Mackay-trained Zipping Lad justified his odds on rating when winning the 2012 Globe Memorial second heat.

He jumped slowly but headed to the rail in a crowded start.

Approaching the first turn Kalden Petroni, Witch On Wheels and Graceful Jewel all received interference, Thrilling Frank was impeded as He’s My Future took the lead.

Zipping Lad settled up behind the leader but changed his mind on three occasions whether to go around or inside He’s My Future.

At the second turn Zipping Lad railed up on the Carolyn Reinke-trained fawn with the other six dogs in indian-file headed by Digger Norris and Thrilling Frank.

At the home turn Zipping Lad stepped up a gear and won the 2012 Globe Memorial second heat by five lengths.

He’s My Future held on for second with Thrilling Frank snatching third from Digger Norris.

Thrilling Frank’s effort was the best outside the winner.

Zipping Lad ran 42.65 sec and came home in 17.05 sec.
