2011 Laurels Classic semi-finals, summary and tips

Four semi-finals of the 2011 Laurels Classic (515m) at Sandown Park will be conducted tonight with open betting races being the main theme.

The four winners and runner up finishers will make up next week final field with the fastest thirds making up the two reserves.

Below we have a summary of the four heats.

We tend to think She Ain’t Late in the fourth 2011 Laurels Classic Semi-Final is about the best of them with Leelicious in the second 2011 Laurels Classic Semi-Final not far behind.

The weather in Melbourne is fine and the track is good.

MACRO MEATS LAURELS CLASSIC  (515m) Semi-final 1 – 8.09pm (EST).

NSW galloper Zipping Catra is a classy chaser who jumped quickly in the heat last week  but found Elmira Bale too quick.

Zipping Catra (box 3) could lead but I wouldn’t be taking ridiculous odds. We assess her at $2.90 but beatable.

Main dangers come from Take Me Home, Katie Merry and Dyna Dara.

Katie Merry (box 2) can be risky away but can also carve out time. It lead last week and ran 29.56 sec. She likes it near the rail. We rate her at $4.50 but others have her longer. Happy to jump on board.

Take Me Home (box 8) has won three races from box eight. It gives her a chance to gather speed. She ran 29.61 at the track three starts back. We rate her a $5 chance and a nice eachway bet.

Dyna Dara (box 1) is trained by Graeme Bate and draw well. A winner of two races from box one. Slowish early but can kick up. Rated a $7 chance.

Proven Impala (box 5) is the risk in our outlook. Seems to race better at The Meadows and drawn poorly. We rate it $8 but suspect it may start shorter.

Tips:  Take Me Home 1, Katie Merry 2 Zipping Catra 3 Dyna Dara 4.

MACRO MEATS LAURELS CLASSIC  (515m) Semi-final 2 – 8.30pm (EST).

Leelicious has won her past three starts and is perfectly drawn from box 8.

Quick early and has the speed to cross and lead.

She has clocked 29.41 here andwon her heat in 29.61 last week.

Won three of four starts at Sandown Park and we rate her a $2.50 and make her tough to beat.

Stetson Donna (box 1) gathers speed once she hits the ground and has led in three of her past four starts.

Carved out a good 29.78 sec in last week’s heat when not leading so could improve on that.

We have this daughter of Premier Style at $5 and rate her an eachway hope.

One who can bounce from the boxes and run a winning time is Ruby Jet. From box five it won’t be easy but definitely one at odds who could lead and take advantage of trouble behind.

We rate Ruby Jet at $7 but suspect she will start longer.

In truth if you minus the pink runner  most of these are evenly matched. A tad of luck could mean a lot.

West Aussie Roxy Mac was slow early in the heat last week but finished on well last week. Box six won’t be easy but the ability is there.

Harbour Rose is another who can hit the line hard and from box two may take some holding out. We rate her an $11 chance but like most others, not hopeless.

Tips: Leelicious 1 Ruby Jet 2 Stetson Donna 3 Harbour Rose 4.

MACRO MEATS LAURELS CLASSIC  (515m) Semi-final 3 – 8.51pm (EST).

Perhaps the toughest of the four semi finals is this one.

We have four dogs rated equally – Mystery Pink, Cee Anna Rose, Zara Zulu and Elmira Bale.

We rate the whole four at $4. It won’t work out that way so a betting proposition will be to take the longest one at the odds and back it eachway.

But for the record we need to sort it out.

Both Zara Zulu and Elmira Bale jumped brilliantly last week. Zara Zulu does it on a more consistent basis.

The good things about her is last week’s win in 29.85 was her first run at the track.

One suspects she can only improve from that experience.

Elmira Bale was the quickest heat winner from the bitches in this race.

Mystery Pink gets a rails draw, something she hasn’t seen for a while and may be able to improve on her average first sections because of it.

Her overall performances and times are good enough to win and slight improvement could mean all the difference.

Cee Anna Rose (box 2) has a good Sandown Park box. She has missed a place in just two of 17 starts. Her consistency is to be admired.

Tips: Zara Zulu 1, Mystery Pink 2 Elmira Bale 3 Cee Anna Rose 4.

MACRO MEATS LAURELS CLASSIC  (515m) Semi-final 4 – 9.13pm (EST).

A little bit like the second Semi the outside box has the speed to lead and win.

She Ain’t Late gets the added bonus of Witch Fantasy (box 7) being replaced by reserve Dyna Erina (first reserve) who can be slow early.

She Ain’t Late led at her past two starts at this track and recorded 29.66 and 29.74.

A winner of three of five starts at this track we rate her at $2.50 and believe she will go close.

Irma Bale (box 2) with Graeme Bate in charge will take beating.

She has a great record from box one and in this gets Chilly Bale in box one.

That is good as Irma Babe can easily head her early and in effect take up the rail position.

Seven of her nine wins have been from the three inside boxes.

She is yet to run under 30 sec but is right in it. We rate her a $4 chance.

Hanify’s Heroine (box 3) is capable of jumping to the lead and has clocked 29.88 for the trip.

She looks a logical danger before we get out to Chilly Babe (box 1).

Hanify’s Heroine is rated a $5 hope with Chilly Babe a $7 chance,

Chilly Babe isn’t blessed with early speed but runs well at this track.

 Tips: She Ain’t Late 1 Irma Bale 2 Hanify’s Heroine 3 Chilly Babe 4.
