Hobart 1000, preview, comment, ratings and tips

Tasmanian trained greyhounds have the ability to keep a hold of the $75,000 first prize in the Group 1 2011 Hobart Thousand final (461m) 9.48pm (EST) tonight.

Rewind and Bergermeister in particular have strong chances reflected by the TABsportsbets market.

Victorian star Dyna Tron holds favouritism at $2.40 after drawing box two in the 2011 Hobart Thousand final.

But Rewind ($3.60) and Bergmeister ($3.80) are right in it after obtaining favourable draws.

Bergermeister (box 1) is the Hobart track record holder at 25.71 sec but clocked 26.05 in last week’s heat.

Trainer Mick Stringer is adamant Bergermeister can deliver.

“I couldn’t happier with how my dog has performed at his past three starts and now that he has drawn the inside alley he is a genuine chance in the final,” Stringer said.

“His time in his heat was a bit south of his best but that was probably due to it being a very late race and it was a nine-day turnaround from his previous win.

“He is in top shape for the final and if he jumps with them on Thursday night they will all know he’s in the race,” he said.

Stringer won the 2008 Hobart Thousand with Little Spaniard and assisted Victorian trainer Robert Britton with the preparation of Prankster who won it in 2009.

Dyna Tron won his 2011 Hobart Thousand heat in a time of 25.78s at his first try on the track.

He clocked the equal fastest time of the eight heat winners and was just a length off the track record.

The Tasmanian-owned and bred Rewind (box 7) ran identical sections to Dyna Tron and is nicely drawn in seven.

In truth he knows how to stay out of trouble.

And if last week’s heats are any guide, he will comfortably jump ahead of David Bale, drawn on his outside.

GROUP 1 Hobart Thousand Final (416m), Form, rating and tips.

 1. BERGERMEISTER (M B Stringer) (19-11-1-1): Probably the best railer in the race drawn to do that. Faded slightly near the line in the heat. Eachway. Heat win in 26.05, Rating 7.

 2. DYNA TRON (A L Dailly) (45-23-6-4): In great form. Won Geelong and Melbourne Cups and ran second in Brisbane Cup . Equal quickest time in heat at first look at the track last week. Just a length off the track record. Go close. Rating 9.

 3. CLYDE’S ANGEL (T J Penny) (37-13-8-7) : Honest performance last week winning heat in 26.16. Obviously no easier here. May place. Rating 5

4. GALTEE AGAIN (D J Crosswell) (39-15-5-0): Average beginner who gathered speed last week and did well to stop the clock in 26.05. Box makes it a tough task and unblikely to lead. Rating 4

 5. SANDBANKER (E A Medhurst) (21-9-1-2): Showed good track sense when stumbled early and worked its way through the field. Only ran 26.51 and others have that trime covered. Hard to have. Rating 3.

 6. DYNA BERT (A L Dailly) (36-12-9-6): Gathered speed from the boxes and then turned it on when in front. Stopped the clock at 25.85 sec. Most respectable and rates an eachway chance. Rating 7.

 7. REWIND (M V Strickland) (41-26-6-4): Flew out of the boxes and ran the equal quickest heat time. Stayed until the turn and finished it off strongly. Box will pose no problems. Great chance. Rating 9.

 8. DAVID BALE (G J Bate) (24-8-8-5): Slow early and took advantage of interference last week when won heat in 26.23. With great trainer and may do better but deserves to be good eachway value. Rating 5.

TIPS: Rewind 1 Dyna Tron 2 Dyna Bert 3 Bergermeister 4.
