Bekim Bale – Melbourne Cup favourite

Tabsportsbet have made Sandown Park track record holder Bekim Bale the $5.50 for the 2011 Melbourne Cup.

Eight heats of the Group 1 $200,000 Melbourne Cup (515m) will be conducted on Thursday.

Bekim Bale is the first dog to have broken the 29 sec at Sandown.

There will be no second chance in the Melbourne Cup heats as eight winners will go straight into the final on November 17.

Bekim Bale is in heat five and needs to take on Adeliade Cup winner Mepunga Nicky.

That quick beginner is $4.50 for the heat but $16 to win the final.

Her best time at Sandown 29.94 is 16 lengths worse than Bekim Bale’s 28.96.

Allen Harper has drawn well in box 1 in the fourth heat.

From four starts out of the box he is undefeated and Tabsportsbet have made him second favourite at $8 to win the final.

He was no match for Bekim Bale in last week’s Shootout running last in the field of four beaten over six lengths.

Rewind and Fancy Dean are $10 with TABsportsbet and equal third faviourites to win the Melbourne Cup final.

Fancy Dean is in the second heat in box three and need to take care of Shereen Bale (box 8) in the heat before anything else.

The Graeme Bate bitch can be hit or miss from the boxes but can generally win from anywhere on her night.

Fancy Dean has won 11 of its past 16 starts but the Sydneysider can  also bea bit tardy from the boxes.

The Darren McDonald trained Rewind was high flying when running 29.34 sec at Sandown two starts back.

From box seven it comes up against the Graeme Bate trained Tonneli Bale from box one.

Tonneli Bale has won five of six starts from the box and looks value in the final at $14.
