V8 to Rock on at Paws of Thunder Final

Media Release: GRNSW

One of the nation’s premier sprint races has snared a new sponsor after ROCK Energy Drinks was granted naming rights to the Group One NCA Paws Of Thunder.

Worth $100,000 to the winner, the three week ROCK Energy Drinks NCA Paws Of Thunder series will continue at Wentworth Park this Saturday night with four electrifying semi-finals before culminating with the final on Saturday 2 October.

The Australian made and Australian owned ROCK Energy Drinks are produced by a local Sydney company, Beverage Holdings, and now market their product in nine different countries. They have more recently teamed up with Jason Bargwanna and the Kelly Racing Team for the 2010 V8 Supercar season. That association is set to land motorsport fans a coup with Bargwanna set to make a special appearance at Wentworth Park on ROCK Energy Drinks NCA Paws Of Thunder final night with his V8 Supercar.

Beverage Holdings’ owner Kon Kola, who has been involved with greyhound racing for more than 15 years, said his company was delighted to be associated with one of Australian greyhound racing’s most lucrative events.

“ROCK Energy Drinks are proud to be associated with the Paws of Thunder,” Mr Kola said. “This is a fantastic event and we are glad to be the sponsor. ROCK Energy Drinks loves to be involved with speed, as can be seen with our involvement with Jason Bargwanna and the V8 Supercar.

“By bringing the V8 ROCK Commodore to Wentworth Park on finals night, along with V8 Supercar driver Jason Bargwanna, we will hopefully attract a new demographic of people not normally associated with greyhound racing.”

Photo opportunities will be available with Bargwanna and his V8 Supercar on the night along with giveaways and prizes.

The naming rights for the Paws Of Thunder have traditionally been attributed to that of the National Coursing Association (NCA). General Manager Adam Dobbin said the NCA had no qualms about re-naming the event which will bring together some of Australia’s finest greyhound racing talent.

“The NCA view the construction of a new partnership with ROCK Energy Drinks as vital to the long-term growth of the Paws Of Thunder,” Mr Dobbin said. “It’s now our only event at Wentworth Park but still one of the biggest race carnivals of the year.

”By establishing this working relationship, we hope with the help of ROCK Energy Drinks we can increase the profile of the Paws Of Thunder in years to come.”
