Smooth Fancy Wins 2010 National Sprint Championship Beating Cosmic Chief

Following Blue Lorian’s win in the 2010 National Distance Championship at Angle Park on Saturday night, another NSW’s dog took out the honours in the 2010 National Sprint Championship as Smooth Fancy scored a classy victory.

The Anthony Azzopardi-trained Smooth Fancy went out at $10 forgotten by the punters and was able to snare a narrow win, finishing just a head in front of the favourite Cosmic Chief ($3.10) with roughie Tombstone Jack ($18) coming from the back of the pack to finish just over a length away in a gallant third.

Arsonist shot away well from box one showing speed on the inside, but later faded to finish fifth while the other fast starter out in box eight, Pedrosa who took the early lead, eventually crossed the line fourth just two and a half lengths away from the winner.

Heading into the home turn Smooth Fancy began to make ground, diving through on the line to win.

Smooth Fancy (Collision x Flash Fancy) has now won 13 of their 26 career starts, finishing Saturday’s 515m sprint in a sharp 29.49s.
