Winsome Gun Wins 2010 Laurie Healion Memorial Maiden

On Friday night Melinda Finn’s sensational young runner Winsome Gun maintained his unbeaten record by winning the $20,000-to-the-winner final of the Group 3 Laurie Healion Memorial Maiden (515m) at The Gardens.

Winsome Gun started as the hot $1.70 favourite and enjoyed a beautiful run on the rails giving all the punters that got behind him a nice payout.

Never threatened, he went on to find the line two lengths ahead of a gallant Vancouver Kiss ($17.60) who sat second all throughout.

The Patrick Parrelli-trained Devine Nation ($18.30) did well to come from further back in the field to finish another length away in third.

The speedy black winner jumped beautifully from box one and lead easily from start to finish in a sharp 29.50, just .03 of a second outside of his personal best at this track and distance.

In our Laurie Healion Preview we advised punters to stick to the favourite when having a bet through and Winsome Gun came through for us and those readers that followed our tip.

We also enjoyed a nice payout through after suggesting Devine Nation was one of our top Place bets.

Winsome Gun (Bombastic Shiraz x Winsome Silver) has now won all three of his race starts for a tidy $21,450 in prizemoney, showing his promise as the New South Wales track star of the future.
