2010 AWM Distance Championship Final Preview

The great Group greyhound racing continues this weekend at The Meadows with the $25,000-to-the-winner final of the Group 2 AWM Distance Championship (725m).

Eight of the nation’s best stayers will take to the track after qualifying through last week’s heats.

Winners from the heats were long priced roughie Mickie Keato (42.91s) who beat hot favourite Satanic Cash by a neck and third placegetter Jarvis Bale, and Blue Lorian (42.97s) in the second heat where the brilliant Nellie Noodles finished third.

Despite her less-than-career best performance in the heats, the Robert Britton-trained Nellie Noodles is still likely to start as the hot favourite for the AWM Distance Championship on Saturday.

Boasting the fastest personal best of 42.03 here, the consistent daughter of Flying Penske will jump from box six but needs a clear run to finish first.

If she gets a good jump and doesn’t run into trouble, her brilliant late burst should see her through.

Satanic Cash is also expected to do well and looks good for an Each Way bet.

Drawn better in box three and coming off a recent string of success prior to finishing second in the heats, the veteran runner has won two of their four starts wearing the white rug.

Other favourites in the AWM Distance Championship betting markets include Blue Lorian and Jarvis Bale.

Winner of heat two last week, the Peter Whye-trained Blue Lorian comes into this clash on the back of six successive victories and will have benefited from their first look at The Meadows track last week.

Jumping from box seven, Blue Lorian is another dog with Each Way claims and can win this at good odds.

Jarvis Bale is never far behind and has the rails run on Saturday.

The Graham Bate-trained son of Sonic Flight is coming off a number of solid finishes in the money and backing them to Place looks the smartest bet.

And not to be forgotten out wide is Reign Over Me, the Darren McDonald-trained runner having won at this track and distance back in May.

Before the AWM Championship showdown, Dapto will host another excellent dog race this Thursday night with the Group 2 Macro Meats Megastar Final featuring a line-up of Group winning dogs that is definitely worth a punt on!

The 2010 AWM Distance Championship will jump at 9:00pm as race six on The Meadows’ cracker 10 race card for Saturday night, which also features the illustrious final for the $50,000 Group 1 Maturity Classic (525m).
