Dee Winter Wins 2010 Traralgon Cup Ahead of Favourites

On Friday night at Traralgon in Victoira, Dee Winter claimed a surprise victory in the $28,000-to-the-winner Lion Quality Products Traralgon Cup (513m) defeating a classy field of rivals including super sprinter Cindeen Shelby.

Dee Winter ($8.80) jumped beautifully from box one and was barely challenged, running away with a two and a quarter length victory ahead of Galba Jack ($5.50), who had previously beaten Dee Winter in the heats, with the speedy Bloss’s Benson ($16.70) just a neck further away in third.

After the top three there was a huge distance between the next lot of dogs, with fourth placegetter Blazin’ Arch crossing over six lengths away from Bloss’s Benson.

In a disappointing finish the hot $1.90 favourite Cindeen Shelby failed to fire on the night coming in a well beaten sixth over 10 lengths back from the winner, putting an end to her five-straight winning streak.

Dee Winter won in a time of 29.80, securing their fifth victory from 19 career starts.

The other feature greyhound race over the weekend was the Group 2 Rapidvite Peter Mosman Classic (520m) at Wentworth Park, where Tuiaki claimed victory.
