2010 The Dawson Final Field & Preview – Fedex the Favourite

Tonight, as well as the elite racing action happening at Albion Park with the Group 1 Gold Cup Final, Victoria’s Sandown Park are also hosting a great greyhound group race final with the running of the $40,000-to-the-winner Group 3 The Dawson (515m).

Hot pre-race favourite following his sharp 29.48 win in the heats last week is the Jason Thompson-trained Fedex. The veteran December ’06 whelp and triple Group 1 winner was brilliant defeating Atomic Voodoo in the qualifiers and despite drawing awkwardly with box four, has been named as the dog to beat tonight as he aims for his third successive win at this track and distance.

Another highly fancied runner is the in-form winner of the Group 2 Warrnambool Classic Cosmic Chief. Despite running second to Flash Of Light last start, the Darren Brown-trained son of Brett Lee has drawn far better tonight with their favoured box two and if they get a clear run will put in a real fight to the line.

Other impressive sprinters ready to impress tonight include Mark Delbridge’s classy bitch Flash Of Light drawn ideally in box one and who if gets away early could be hard to catch as she was in her heat win, and the Darren McDonald-trained Iso Octane who boasts a speedy 29.29 personal best here but has drawn awkwardly with box five.

The Dawson Final will jump at 9:35pm as race number eight and the best odds can be found at Ladbrokes.com.au.
