Hooky Booky Wins 2010 Ranvet Gold Cup in Thrilling Finish from Pulp

After having to be rescheduled due to horrendous weather conditions, on Sunday night at Bulli the $25,000-to-the-winner final for the Group 2 Ranvet Gold Cup (472m) took place with the Mark Bell-trained Hooky Booky securing a tight victory.

Hooky Booky ($6.20) held on to defeat an impressive late charge from Pulp ($4) by a mere head with the $2.80 favourite, Reg Kay’s Elite Blue Size finishing a further 1 ¾ lengths away for third.

Known for his poor kennel manners, Hooky Booky remained calm and stormed out of box one, leading all the way on the rails to secure his 14th win from 29 career starts.

It was just the second time from nine starts that the Craig Chappelow-trained Pulp has been defeated at Bulli, but he was far from disgraced flying down the outside, overtaking Elite Blue Size who had sat second throughout and came within a head of winning.

But Hooky Booky put his head down on the line to secure the win, while Pulp, head-up, was named runner-up.

The next group greyhound races take place this Thursday night when Sandown Park host the $40,000 Group 3 The Dawson (515m) and the $50,000 Group 1 Cartwright Property Group Gold (710m) runs at Albion Park.
