NSW TAB Dates Confirmed

Media Release: GRNSW

Greyhound Racing New South Wales (GRNSW) today announced the final 2010/11 TAB race dates schedule following a process of consultation with clubs and other stakeholders.

The new schedule includes the first stage of the planned expansion of NSW greyhound racing in line with the launch of Sky Racing 2.

From 1 July, Wentworth Park will now add Friday night racing to Saturday’s premium greyhound race meeting whilst Richmond’s main programme will switch to Saturday nights as the second NSW greyhound meeting.

Bulli will replace Wentworth Park on a Monday night providing consistency of racing at the popular south coast circuit.

GRNSW Chairman Professor Percy Allan AM explained that the Board’s decision to re-shape the TAB racing schedule was to best position the sport for the changes that are occurring in the racing and wagering marketplace.

“GRNSW has listened to the feedback provided by clubs and other stakeholders during the consultation process and has ultimately settled on a schedule that balances the need to maximise wagering sales whilst not disadvantaging our racing clubs.

“No change is without pain, but after much debate, discussion and compromise I think the Board achieved a commercially sound and balanced outcome.

“The Board remains committed to providing long term sustainable growth for the sport in NSW and these changes effectively provide for this growth and will help to drive wagering returns in markets where there is a direct correlation between our performance and the fees we receive,” Professor Allan said.

GRNSW did consider moving the second metropolitan meeting to a Thursday night but ultimately determined that the Friday night timeslot was most conducive to exposing greyhound racing to a broader audience and targeting punters new to greyhound racing.

Chief Executive Brent Hogan said that GRNSW engaged in productive discussions with the Richmond Race Club following the release of the draft proposal and believes that the final schedule addresses the principal concerns of the club.

“Saturday night racing at Richmond provides the club with an excellent opportunity to continue to build upon patronage they enjoy on a Friday night.

“The Gardens will race in the early evening on a Saturday following on from the metropolitan thoroughbred races in the afternoon, providing a platform to continue to promote greyhound racing in the Hunter.”

Grafton will also be elevated to the TAB circuit as from mid May and in the new schedule will share the Thursday afternoon, providing a platform to continue to promote greyhound racing in the Hunter.”

Grafton will also be elevated to the TAB circuit as from mid May and in the new schedule will share the Thursday afternoon timeslot with Dubbo.

The Board has determined that the scheduling of Nowra in the one timeslot over a 52 week period is important and therefore will be given priority status as part of future changes to the schedule as the second stage of the planned expansion of NSW greyhound racing is implemented.

The new TAB race date schedule will begin on 1 July 2010 and will be reviewed prior to the allocation of race dates for 2011/12.
