The Jason Mackay-trained Bogie Brave claimed an upset win at Richmond on Friday night when he defeated a classy field or rivals in the $25, 000-to-the-winner Group 2 World 4 Pets Richmond Derby.
In-form Bogie Brave ($10.80) beat home Clark No Ee ($5.10) by half a length with the Julie Fletcher-trained Magnifique ($7.50), who beat Bogie Brave in the heats last week, a further three quarters of a length away for third.
It was a disappointing finish for the $1.90 favourite, Swift Fancy, who could only manage fifth on the night after being checked by Magnifique who was crossing to the rails. Swift Fancy was then forced to race wide and failed to come back.
Bogie Brave jumped well from box eight and crossed the field to get to the rails early in the race and lead all the way from there.
The winning son of Bond ran a sharp 30.91 over the 535m final to secure his tenth win from 24 career starts.
Bogie Brave will next appear in the Golden Easter Egg heats this weekend
Bogie Brave has a tough test in his next start this weekend when he faces off against a champion field in the strongest 2010 Marco Meats Golden Easter Egg heat at Wentworth Park.
