Thursday’s Queensland Futurity Heats Preview

This Thursday night Brisbane’s Albion Park will host three terrific heats to determine the final field of speedy bitches moving on to the $25, 000 to-the-winner final of the Group 2 Bogie Leigh Queensland Futurity (520m).

The Queensland Futurity is open to female greyhounds whelped on or after September 4, 2007 and the 2010 series has attracted some of the best bred bitches the Futurity has seen to date.

The opening heat of the night features the strongest interstate presence with three Queensland hopes up against four interstate rivals. The locals are Lady Stanley drawn ideally in box one, Honey Lass (Box 3) coming off two successive wins over this trip including last week’s Winged Runner Trophy, and Tricia Fuller’s lightly raced bitch One Carat (Box 4) – all three daughter’s of Bombastic Shiraz.

The interstate raiders in heat one are the John Free-trained So Seductive (Box 2), roughie Fie Fie (Box 6), last-start runner up in the Group 2 Cyril Rowe Plate Little Sparkle (Box 7) and the consistent Denise Robinson-trained Gold Nebo (Box 8).

Trained in NSW by Ken Chappelow, Little Sparkle’s dam Frosty Fruits was a winner of their Futurity heat back in 2005 before running a close second in the final just a head back from Smart And Sassy.

The second heat is dominated by Queensland runners, with six of the eight starters from the Sunshine State. The two interstate bitches are Miss Zamba (Box 2) having just her third career start and the Tricia Fuller-trained Velocity Trish on the fence in box eight.

The Queensland contingent in heat two includes Malcom Dawson’s improving Rush In (Box 4) and the Sandra Hunt-trained Lilly’s Pride (Box 3).

The third and final heat of the night features only one interstate runner, Velocity Regina in box three. Quality Queensland females engaged in the race include the consistent black and white bitch Confetti Bomb drawn ideally in box two, the Raymond Burman-trained daughter of Bombastic Shiraz Fawn Magic (Box 5) and the lightly raced Oxygen Lil (Box 6).

The three Bogie Leigh Queensland Futurity heats will run as races four (7:43pm), five (8:06pm) and six (8:26pm) on Thursday night’s brilliant 10 event programme.
