2010 Temlee Preview – Take The Kitty Scratched – Cindeen Shelby the Favourite

This Saturday night The Meadows is the place to be for the best greyhound racing as the club hosts a bumper evening of thrilling action highlighted by three invitation only Group races and the eight heats for the 2010 Group 1 MTD Australian Cup, all as part of the Sky Channel Australian Cup Carnival.

The headline event of the night is set to be the $50 000 Group 1 Macro Meats Temlee (525m) where eight tremendous sprinters are lining up to fight for the Group 1 win.

Shocking news earlier in the week revealed that the highly fancied Take The Kitty was a scratching from the Temlee, making way for Silver Chief winner Enry Walt to gain a start from box one.

Trained by Ken Cheetham, the Betfair NSW Greyhound of the Year finalist suffered a pin muscle injury last weekend, though only minor still enough to force him out of the prestigious event.

Despite receiving a brilliant opportunity with the inside box, Enry Walt is facing some incredibly stiff competition in the Temlee final.

The first class field includes some of the country’s best sprinters such as the speedy Fedex, Cindeen Shelby, Dyna Lachlan and Queensland star Mr. Metz in his toughest test yet.

The Jason Thompson-trained Fedex (Primo Uno x Tranquil Goddess) is aiming for his third Group 1 victory following his impressive Silver Chief and National Derby wins. The prolific dog has won 22 of his 56 career starts and is coming off two second placings. Despite a good track record at The Meadows he will have to improve his form to take this one home. He has drawn box three and has only won two of his 22 victories from this box.

Jumping from box four is the Kel Greenough-trained Cindeen Shelby. Sharing the fastest personal best on this track with Birthday Boy, a sharp 29.67, the daughter of Bombastic Shiraz is a triple Group 1 winner with wins in the Topgun, Sapphire Crown and Paws Of Thunder amongst her impressive career record.

Cindeen Shelby, having her first start in 2010, is likely to start as the odds on favourite despite a poor eighth place finish to Mr. Metz in Brisbane back on December 10 in her last start.

Birthday Boy, trained by Steve Elsum, has the speed and the box two draw in his favour however the son of Where’s Pedro would have benefited from a few more runs at this track. If he can get away well, steer clear of the others and bring out his brilliant burst of acceleration over the concluding stages he is well placed to run in the top three.

Another runner popular with the punters and betting public is the brilliant Dyna Lachlan. Although drawn awkwardly in box five, the Andrea Dailly trained son of Go Wild Teddy has the chasing ability and determination to play a big role in this race. With an impressive winning strike rate of 59%, the Adelaide Cup win to his name and a great record at The Meadows he is sure to start at fairly short odds.

Many greyhound racing and betting enthusiasts will also be keeping a keen eye on the Australian Cup heats in anticipation of the semi final round on February 20 followed by the highly anticipated and lucrative $150 000 grand final on February 27.

The Group 1 Temlee is programmed as the eighth race on the night’s elite 11 event line-up and will jump at 9:45pm (VIC time).
