In a sensational afternoon of racing last Friday at The Gardens, the Brett May-trained Daydream claimed victory in the $50 000 to-the-winner Group 1 Nexia Court National Futurity final.
Starting as the $2.40 favourite, Daydream beat home surprise second placegetter Mega Pixel ($50) by 4 ¼ lengths with Cristalle ($16.90) a further 1 ½ lengths away for third.
The winning daughter of Bit Chili, who also claimed victory in the first semi final the week before, ran a sharp 29.62sec over the 515m sprint final, a good improvement on her 29.71 semi final time, to secure her ninth win from 16 career starts and give Brett May and wife Deborah their first Group 1 winner.
It was another solid run for the ever improving Cristalle, who ran a surprise second to Daydream in the semis after starting at the long odds of $28.60.
Brett May’s other Futurity Final runner, Bit Stressed ($4.60), ran a disappointing sixth just half a length ahead of the third favourite, the other semi final winner Pink Surprise, in seventh.
The other feature race at the action packed meeting was the Group 1 National Derby final where Elite Blue Size reigned supreme.
