National Futurity Semi Final Results & Final Preview

Friday afternoon The Gardens was home to the much awaited semi finals for the Group 1 Nexia Court National Futurity (515m).

The first Futurity semi saw hot favourite Daydream ($3.30) beat home roughie Cristalle ($28.60) by 1 ¾ lengths with another outsider Paua To Erupt ($18.90) crossing the line an extra length back in third.

The second elect, Odessa Shiraz ($3.70) finished off the top four just edging out fifth placegetter, the Brendan Wheeler-trained Greta Bale.

Speedy sprinter Daydream, trained by Brett May, ran a solid 29.71 over the 515m in the brindle bitch’s eighth win from 15 career starts. The time was a far cry from her best, a blistering 26.56, but was still enough for the win and to be the fastest qualifier.

Daydream has drawn well in the box draw for Friday’s final and will start from two.

The second semi final last Friday was taken out by Nicole Donovan’s Pink Surprise. The daughter of Bond x Smart Assassin started at generous odds of $14.20 and defeated the $2.20 favourite Bit Stressed by 2 ¾ lengths, with roughie Meg Pixel ($23.80) a further 1 ½ lengths away for third.

Pink Surprise has drawn box three for the final while Bit Stressed, Brett May’s other qualifier, has drawn on the far outside in eight.

The $50 000 grand final of the 2010 National Futurity is set to take place this Friday, February 5, at The Gardens thrilling twilight meeting that will also feature the final of the Group 1 National Derby.
