Tomorrow Night’s Devonport Cup Final Preview

Tomorrow afternoon, Tuesday January 19, Northwest GRC at Devonport will host the $25 000 final of the Group 3 Dowling McCarthy & Hankook Tyres Devonport Cup (452m).

Eight quality sprinters are set to start in the group race final, which is set to be a close and competitive affair with three dogs coming off a minimum of three successive victories.

The Mick Stringer-trained Topline Doovee is one such contender, the black bitch securing the prized inside alley following her sensational eight length triumph in heat one last week.

Topline Doovee will face some tough rivals including Victorian Shunted and Topline Doovee’s kennelmate Cradock Park. Although both dogs have drawn awkwardly with boxes five and six respectively, they both have the speed and talent to lead from the gates and take this feature out.

Cradock Park was also the second quickest qualifier last week running a sharp 25.80 to beat home Crime Fighter by a neck.

Another dog to watch is the Darren McDonald-trained Gardam Prince who qualified fastest for the final with a sensational 25.66 win here last week. Gardam Prince has drawn ideally with box two and will be sure to push Topline Doovee on his inside to perform at her best.

Victorian runner Gardam Prince is one of two interstate raiders in tomorrow’s race; the other is Shunted in box five who took out heat four last week in a solid 25.84.

The Devonport Cup is scheduled as race six on the afternoon’s elite ten-race programme and is due to jump at 2:09pm (TAS time).
