Thursday’s Adelaide Cup Semi-Finals

This Thursday night Angle Park will be home to the semi-finals of the prestigious Group 1 Sky Channel Adelaide Cup (515m) following last week’s heats.

The four semi-finals are all prepped to be exciting affairs, with some of the country’s best greyhounds competing for their spot in the $85 000 final on January 21.

Semi-Final 1 features the likes of star sprinter Dyna Lachlan, who has been installed as the $2.50 pre-race favourite following his sizzling 29.50s victory here last week. Drawn ideally in box two, the Anakie based dog has everything in their favour. Two dogs sure to bring some tough competition, however, are Boozeroo (Box 4) and the classy Remo Rubik who has drawn wide with Box 8 but has the starting speed to cross the field and come to the front of the pack.

The field for Semi-Final 2 is headlined by the warm favourite at $2.40, High Earner. Despite not winning his heat and drawing the slightly awkward box four, High Earner still has the speed and consistency to obtain a win. Other strong chances lie in Sunny Boy Love with the inside running from box one, and the very capable Dyna Forte, the Graeme Bate-trained youngster jumping wide from box seven.

Semi-Final 3 consists of another classy line-up with the Group 1 Hobart Thousand winner Prankster coming up against talented rivals including the Ron Ball-trained Mr. Metz. The ever consistent Mr. Metz is current favourite with the bookies at $2.80 and will start from box four while second favourite Prankster has drawn wide with box seven. Also keep an eye on Graeme Bate’s Dentax Bale who drew the rails alley and Lady Gaga in box six.

The final qualifier of the night, Semi-Final 4 has another of Bate’s star runners positioned as the top pick at $2.70, Turanza Bale. The Lara trained dog has come up with box one and if they gain a good start will have the field chasing him all the way. Others that may just catch him include speedy runners Fedex (Box 7) and Elusive Tiger (Box 5), with Mick The Mozz in box two possibly providing a bit of value.

The other anticipated races at Thursday night’s Angle Park meeting are the eight heats of the John Gray Memorial.

The Sky Racing Adelaide Cup semi-finals will run as race five (8:07pm), six (8:27pm), seven (8:51pm) and eight (9:10pm) on the night’s elite 12 race programme. All times listed are for South Australia.

The winners of each semi-final will not only secure their spot in the final, but will also take home the lucrative $4 480 to-the-winner kitty for their connections.
