Patch Up Job Wins Wauchope Cup Final

Last Saturday night Hastings River Greyhound Racing Club held the latest leg of the 2009/10 GRNSW Country Challenge, the Wauchope Cup Final (457m) where the Nicholas Clifton-trained Patch Up Job claimed victory, amending for his loss in the heats.

Patch Up Job ($3) defeated the Mathew Moncrieff-trained Who Wants Me ($5) by ½ a length, with the odds-on favourite and fastest heat winner Devine Rush ($2.25) a further length back in third.

The son of Eifella ran a speedy 25.77 over the 457m event after jumping from his well-drawn box three to earn the $4 000 to-the-winner first prize.

It was Patch Up Job’s first lot of points in the GRNSW Country Challenge series, the winner returning to the country tracks following three successive wins at Wentworth Park last November.

The other highly fancied runner pre-race was Kevin Johnson’s Bud Sannette. But the talented young dog, installed as the $2.75 second favourite, could only manage fifth place, his first unplaced finish in his 11 career starts.

Who Wants Me’s second placing has seen him elevate to fourth place on the total Country Challenge Leaderboard with 15 points. The top three still stand as Future Fund (24), Tadmore Buckshot (23) and Mighty Albert (22).

The next GRNSW Country Challenge event will be the Orange Cup Heats (520m) on Saturday January 16 at Bathurst followed by the Kennerson Park final on 23rd January.
