Wednesday Night’s Cyril Rowe Gold Plate Preview – Gripen Bale Scratched

This Wednesday night, the final of the $25 000 to-the-winner Group 2 Cyril Rowe Gold Plate (472m) will take place at Bulli and in a shock upset, the talented Gripen Bale has been scratched from the race.

Gripen Bale qualified the fastest of last week’s heats with a blistering time of 26.19, but trainer Brendan Wheeler has scratched the Geelong Cup winner and Hobart Thousand third-placegetter due to injury.

The scratching of Gripen Bale has allowed the Charlie Gatt-trained Disintergrate to gain a start in the Group 2 feature from the coveted box one.

Dyna Blade is now Wheeler’s final chance of success in the Gold Plate, jumping from box five he needs a strong start to be in with a chance amongst the star-studded field.

Prolific trainer Ruth Matic will be represented by two runners, Patrick Dudley and the highly promising  Hurricane Luke both ideally positioned in boxes two and three respectively.

Another trainer with two dogs in the Gold Plate is John Finn. Finn has Silver Chief semi-finalist Om Shanti starting in box six and Goodsey, who was third to Gripen Bale in last week’s heats, in box seven.

The Cyril Rowe Gold Plate Final will run as race eight at the meeting’s ten-race card and is due to start at 9:25pm; the amended box draw is listed below.
