Dyna Lachlan Wins Ballarat Cup

Wednesday night boom sprinter Dyna Lachlan claimed an emphatic victory in the Group 2 Petstock Ballarat Cup Final (450m).

The talented youngster, trained by Andrea Dailly, started as the warm favourite at $2.10 and proved exactly why, defeating the Darren McDonald-trained Rev Limiter ($9) by a lazy 5.75 lengths with Manuel Bale ($11.90), also trained by Dailly, a further 2.75 lengths back in third place.

Dyna Lachlan won in a remarkable 25.05 seconds, blitzing his previous personal best by 0.24 seconds and claimed the $30 000 to-the-winner prize. Runner-up in both the Melbourne Cup and National Sprint Championship earlier in the year, the son of Go Wild Teddy has now won an impressive 20 wins from his 32 race starts for nearly $200 000 in prize earnings.

Other short-priced fancies failed to fire on the night, like Darren McDonald’s other runner Timberland ($4.60) who could only manage to finish sixth after finding the awkward draw of box five too tricky. McDonald was aiming at his second Ballarat Cup success.

It was the Dailly kennel’s third win in the Ballarat Cup, having previously claimed victory with Knockabout Wok in 2002 and Magic Trance in 2005.

Their winner this year will now be aimed at Melbourne’s Group 1 Silver Chief.
