Thursday Night’s Brisbane Cup Heats

Tonight Albion Park will run five heats of the coveted Group 1 Sky Racing Brisbane Cup (520m) in anticipation of the $55 000 to-the-winner final next week.

The series has attracted the nation’s best dogs, including Melbourne Cup winner Lord Ducal who will jump from box four as the race favourite in heat four at his first look at the Brisbane track.

The short-priced favourite for the opening heat is star runner and Topgun winner Cindeen Shelby due to jump from box four. Trained in Pearcedale, Cindeen Shelby has displayed impeccable recent form, winning four of her past five starts.

Heat two has one of the closest fields and includes Robo Raptor along with Graeme Bate’s Dyna Forte. But the favourite for the second heat will be the National Sprint Champion Dashing Corsair.

Currently dominating the GRNSW Country Challenge this year, Mighty Albert has made his way up to Queensland for the Brisbane Cup series. He will start from box three in the final heat of the night, coming up against the talented Pure Surf.

The Brisbane Cup heats are scheduled as races four, five, six, seven and eight on tonight’s bumper ten race programme at Albion Park, with the opening heat (race four) commencing at 7:43pm.
