This Wednesday The Meadows will host the year’s next major greyhound race, the exciting Group 3 Newcastle Cup (715m) with a line-up of top dogs ready to fight for the $20 000 to-the-winner prize.
Two dogs coming off sensational form having won three of their past four starts are Robert Smith’s local runner Lochinvar Vogue and the Graeme Bate-trained champion Amity Bale.
Other fancied dogs include John Heard’s Forty Twenty and the Michael Cope-trained Reign Over Me. Forty Twenty will start from box five on the inside of Amity Bale, drawn awkwardly in box six.
A number of the contenders are making their debut at the track including Drill ‘Em, who recently defeated Amity Bale in a sensational lead-all-the-way victory in Sandown’s Carnival Cup. It will be star stayer Amity Bale’s first look at The Meadows track as well, however the daughter of Sonic Flight is still heading the betting markets.
The Newcastle Cup is scheduled to run as race eight in the ten race programme for The Meadows on Wednesday night and will commence at 9:25pm (NSW time).
