Shamus O’Shaw Wins Goulburn Cup

Ruth Matic’s in-form dog Shamus O’Shaw claimed victory in the latest leg of the GRNSW Country Challenge, the Goulburn Cup Final (457m) last Saturday afternoon.

Shamus O’Shaw ($3.50) blitzed his rivals winning in a very slick 25.79 seconds, beating his impressive heat time of 25.84 and securing the $6650 to-the-winner prize in an all-the-way victory.

Matic’s runner jumped well from box one and used the inside draw to his advantage to beat home runner-up Brady’s Wish ($7.00) by three and a quarter lengths with the Justin King-trained Katie’s Tears, the fastest qualifier and odds-on favourite at $1.80, a further length and a half back in third.

The Matic family had another two runners in the race, Matthew Matic’s Fact Or Fantasy managed fourth while Danielle Matic’s Lorne Bowler finished sixth.

The victory was the fourth from five starts at the track for Shamus O’Shaw and earned the runner an additional eight points in the Country Challenge series. He is now equal fourth overall.
