Carragher Pleads Guilty To Substance Offence

Greyhound trainer Gregory Carragher has pleaded guilty to using the prohibited substance Firocoxib on his dog Mallaig Mighty prior to competing in Race 4 at Maitland on 3 September 2009.

Yesterday, Greyhound Racing NSW Stewards conducted an inquiry into analyst’s reports which found traces of the drug in a urine sample.

Evidence was taken from Carragher as well as written evidence from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory and Racing Analytical Services, Victoria.

As a result of the offence, Carragher has been fined $1100 however stewards did acknowledge his previous 40 year unblemished record and his work in the Wauchipe Greyhound Club.

Mallaig Mighty was disqualified from the 3 September 2009 race which means that the amended placings are as follows:

1st – Running Issue

2nd – Karloff

3rd – Birraba Boy

As Race 4 was the first in a series of races, Mallaig Mighty was also disqualified from Race 8 in the finals on 10 September 2009 and the placings are amended to:

1st – Hello Hooray

2nd – Isaac Muldoon

3rd – Arnie’s Mate
