Shepparton Cup Final Result – Gardam Prince Wins

Star sprinter Gardam Prince (Black Enforcer x She’s Travelling) has won the Group 2 Shepparton Cup Final (450m) last Saturday night collecting the very lucrative $27 000 first prize for his connections.

The Darren McDonald-trained runner, jumping from box six, defeated the short-priced favourite and fastest qualifier Din’s Son by one and a half lengths in a very speedy 25.03 seconds, with Jason Thompson’s Skaise finishing a bold third.

It was a happy moment for McDonald who lost two of his earlier hopes in the heats, Go Go Allegro and True Kihael failing to qualify. The win was the trainer’s first Shepparton Cup since he produced the 1998 winner Ashigga.

The Karen Leek-trained Din’s Son did well to finish second in what was his first group race final.

Gardam Prince now boasts 24 wins from 34 career starts with four placings and has earned over $78 000 in career stakes.

Other exciting events to take place at Shepparton on Saturday night included the Grade 5 Star Maker Bitches Final (450m) won by Katie’s Tears and the Quest Shepparton Final (650m) where Smokin’ Ichiban claimed victory.
