Dancing Surf Wins Vic Peters Classic Final – Wentworth Saturday Night Race Results

Last Saturday night Wentworth Park hosted the Group 1 Schweppes Vic Peters Classic Final (520m), which saw the blue brindle speedster Dancing Surf take home the $50 000 to-the-winner prize.

The Frank and Tracey Hurst-trained dog, son of Surf Lorian – Dancing Habit, beat home his rivals in a respectable 30.25 seconds. He ran a career best of 30.13 seconds to win in the semi finals the weekend before, but still held a comfortable lead of three quarters of a length in the final ahead of runner-up Pedrosa.

Dancing Surf and Pedrosa fought it out uncontested by the rest of the pack from the first turn, after the odds-on favourite Puddy Muddles had a shocking turn on the inside rails at the left hand exit at the end of the home straight, knocking into Boston Blackie.

The impact caused a pile-up giving the leaders a huge advantage. The pair fought it out from the 720m boxes and inside the 200m Pedrosa made some ground on the leader, but a late move to the outside cost him the title.

The Tracey Hurst-trained Puddy Muddles fought back from a bad start to finish two lengths back for third.

The win boosted Dancing Surf’s record to eight wins and 13 placings from 27 starts.

There were a range of other great races drawing a crowd to Wentworth on Saturday including the first race of the night, the Over Flo @ Stud Stake (Grade 4/5, 720m). The Eric Castle-trained Salvatore won the race after jumping from box three, three and a half lengths ahead of Miss Panama with Purple Range in third. Early favourite for the race, Reign Over Me was scratched from the event.

Another impressive victory on the night was had by Take The Kitty. Son of Big Daddy Cool, the talented sprinter took out the Green V Jones Blue Paws FFA (520m), atoning for its seventh place finish in the Group 1 Topgun at The Meadows behind winner Cindeen Shelby. Take The Kitty burst from the boxes, clocking slick sectionals of 5.47 and 13.73 before crossing the line an amazing nine and a quarter lengths in front of runner-up Bells Pace.
