Ipswich Gold Cup Final Results

Brilliant Yikes claimed an empathic victory in last night’s Group 2 Ipswich Gold Cup final, securing for his connections the very lucrative $25 000 to-the-winner prize.

The son of Collision x New Guess led from the start, crossing the finish six and a quarter lengths ahead of Tricia Fuller’s speedy bitch Velocity Cloud, with the Ton Brett-trained Robo Raptor a further length and a quarter back in third.

The Christine Robartson-trained Brilliant Yikes clocked a final time of 30.49 seconds in the 520m event, just outside of the 30.43s race record set by Bogie Blue.

After tearing a back muscle in February, it is surprising Brilliant Yikes is back racing and even more impressive he is winning finals up against some of Queensland’s best competition.

Yikes now boasts a record of 17 wins from 41 career starts.

Early fancies Paddy Bell and Tap An Rack failed to live up to their semi-final form and speed, finishing fifth and seventh respectively.
